I was thinking of Loveliness yesterday when our central heating clock stopped working! It's not as bad as it might be - it's stuck permanently on! Rather than permanently off! But it did get too hot and it's a waste of fuel. It's just one of those little computerised box things. The LED's have all just disappeared/died and the one button is on and won't switch off. I did find a work around last night by turning the wall thermostat to zero, which turns it off again. So we can manually turn it on and off by turning the thermostat up and down. Wonder if I'll be able to get an electrician before Christmas! It just needs a new little unit. These computerised ones only seem to last a few years.

I never use the clock/timer for mine I always use the thermostat, it’s easier to keep the temperature I want that way.

Super annoying but at least the heating is stuck on rather than off with it being so cold. Hope your fix is more straightforward than mine!! Fortunately I have boiler insurance so it was quite straightforward to get someone out to fix it!

I'll probably have to find an electrician to fit a new one  It's an oil boiler. Didn't know about boiler insurance for those? It's never been a priority as it's only partial central heating and we have a fire and some oil filled radiators too.

Thank you Frida. I've messaged the electrician but I bet he's fully booked until after Christmas. We could just leave it and use the thermostat but then that might go!

Spoke too soon - the thermostat has packed up now!

I really hope you can get that fixed soon. Its far too cold for no heating.

We have electric heating in two rooms and an open fire so it's not too bad but means some rooms won't be warm until it gets sorted.

That really is a pain, hope you can get someone to fix it soon. Good to know that you have some heat at least.

Thank you! :ROFLMAO: No hot water now either. Looks like we'll need to try and get an engineer out asap tomorrow.

Oh dear 😳 Definitely time to get someone in to look at it!

I hope you get it all fixed asap. Having no hot water is a pain.

Raffy: you can always have a sand bath 🐹😉

It turns out we had run out of oil  And because the timer clock was stuck in the on only position it burned up the remaining oil. Heating engineer phoned me last night and said it should start working again once we get more oil in the tank (managed to get a delivery for today organised) but the heating clock still needs replacing so will still need them to come out. I wasn't too worried if the heating oil took a few days as we have some good oil filled electric radiators and still have an immersion heater on the hot water tank. I switched the immersion heater on last night and it blew all the fuses!

Which was a bit scary as then no electricity or lights! Thankfully flipping the fuse switch back up sorted that but looks like the immersion heater can't be used and also needs looking at (it was new a few years ago!). Gremlins!

Oh no! That all sounds very scary for you. I hope it can be sorted today.

It's fine - now I know what's what! Heating engineer was really helpful on the phone. New timer clock will be expensive though! These digital ones only seem to last a few years!

That does sound very expensive. What a shame they are not built to last longer.
