im a bit confused hamster need different substrate yk and i think they lived in a wild so grass wouldnt affect them and anyone wondering which type of grass so its the grass i have in my garden

Hi. I think most people would say not to use grass from the garden. Even if you don't use chemicals on it, car fume pollution could affect it if you're near a road eg. The main reason also that people suggest not to these days, is because of parasites that could be on the grass, from other wild animals (at night maybe). I have occasionally picked the odd white clover from our garden, and washed it first and not had any issues. But for the grass, it might be better to grow some nibble grass in a pot indoors :-) You can also grow various sprouts. There's a thread on here about sprouts - I'll see if I can find it :-)

Cut grass starts to rot and ferment and can get mouldy unless it is dried like hay. Paper based bedding is good as it's really clean, for instance Kaytee Clean and Cosy, Fitch or CareFresh.

You can sometimes get aspen bedding in bulk quite cheap from reptile shops - you could maybe mix that with the paper to make it go further - if that’s affordable.
