I recall a post about a guinea pig also going into a narrow space and the owner was worried that she had become trapped there as she found her there after she had passed. The really experienced guinea pig lady on the forum said that sometimes they go off into a narrow, small space when it is their time and that they seem to seek out such spaces. I don't know if hamsters do that as well, but it may be. I wish you peace of mind and

They do yes - they often go somewhere to die. It was my first thought. But then it was the idea he might have just got stuck and hadn't noticed the other exit.

I know these are normal feelings that kick in after a hamster dies when you keep wondering things - it's just time - we all go through it.

Yes, it is a very human instinct which is based on caring deeply for your pet. It is very normal and healthy

We just found Tino passed away in his cage tonight. Am a bit choked up. His food hadn't gone from the night before, he wasn't in his house - I found him somewhere else in the cage. Just trying to process it before making arrangements.

As many of you know he was a beautiful big boy and a softie. He was almost 2.5 years old and had been on metacam for some time. He seemed to have energy. He had been active every night. It must have been his time.

I'm sorry Maz, it's so hard when you see it coming but there's nothing you can do to beat father time. Tino seemed like he was doing well aside of age, you took great care of him.

please don’t torment yourself with such thoughts you are the most loving and caring hamster mum it was clearly just Tinos time and it is always traumatic when it happens so fast, but when you process the loss of a beloved pet that passes so sudden, it is a comforting to know they didn’t suffer long.
Most animals try to hide (or squeeze in tight spaces) when they know their time has come I learnt this when working at the vet. I send you a comforting hug and let me tell you: if I was a hamster I would feel blessed to have you as my mum

It has been one of those times the last couple of weeks - first the moth outbreak and cage disinfection, various other hectic things last week and I pulled my back on Friday - it all happens at once.

Oh Maz, I feel really sorry and sad you are such a kind, helpful and caring person, you don’t deserve these upsets.
I pray that your back heals fast and hope for better times ahead
It never rains it pours, there is do much truth to this saying. I went through a really bad time from December until February when my cat reached the end of her life. Everything went wrong for weeks.
I can fully understand how you feel
I do hope that things will pick up fast, sending a big hug and lots of healing energy

Thank you. Yes I thought pulling my back was the last straw (I already have bad knees!) and then Tino died.
