That's good I think you're right it's the texture they go for. Is it a fleece blanket? Ours have always loved those.

Yes it's a thick fleece. Only the best for Albert You can definitely feel the difference in quality between the two blankets and it seems Albert can too

I tried to hide some of Albert's favourite seeds in his cage while he was a sleep. Albert came running out of his nest and started following my hand. Every time I tried to hide a seed he nicked it from in between my finger and thumb. The quicker I went the quicker Albert got. I had Albert running everywhere. Made me laugh and Albert loved the game.

I did a half clean of Albert's substrate today for the first time. I was very nervous about upsetting Albert but he was fine. He had a nice little sleep in his carrier and when I put him back he rearranged a few things. I gave him a few treats and then he went back to bed
Nearly forgot to say. Albert let me scoop him up in his cage for the first time today. Normally that's a no no. He's always let me scoop him up outside the cage

Aw that's nice to hear he accepted it fine and lovely you can scoop him up in his cage now. They do get used to it the longer you have them and as long as some things are the same (like the other half of the cage) it seems to be accepted ok.

That’s good that Albert wasn’t bothered by his cage clean, it can be a bit nerve wracking to begin with when you’re unsure how they’ll react but that went really well & letting him scoop him up shows how much he trusts you.

Albert found a new game to play last night. I have cushions on the sofa and Albert loves to climb all over them. One of the cushions is quite big and the material is soft and smooth. Albert climbed up the back of the sofa and then used the cushion as a slide. I think the first time was by accident but he kept repeating the process of climbing up the sofa and then sliding back down the cushion. Albert must have been having fun to keep doing it. Hubby and I just sat there watching and laughing.

Albert also had his second free roam on the living room floor. He is so fast. I sat on the floor and Albert kept running back to me for reassurance. He sat in his taxi mug when he was ready to go home.

That sounds great I think hamsters enjoy sofas and cushions Did he mean to slide down or was it accidental? It's nice he is enjoying free roaming as well. He is having a nice life with you.

I think the first time was accidental and I panicked because I thought he might of scared himself but he ran so quickly back up the sofa to do it again and again

I wish I'd thought to grab my phone to film Albert but I guess we were so caught up in the moment. Hopefully he'll do it again and I'll get chance to film him.

I know that feeling - I have missed many moments by not thinking to pick up my phone Or just enjoying the time as it happens.

Albert was interested in hearing how Clive got on at the vets...
I said to my hubby "do you want to know how Clive got on at the vets?"
My hubby said "yes" and pointed at Albert's cage.
Albert was poking is nose out of his carrot cottage.
I said to Albert "do you want to know how Clive got on at the vets too?"
Albert then poked his head out.
I said "come on then I'll tell you both at the same time".
Albert then came out of his cottage and sat looking at me while I gave Clive's update.
When I finish he turned around and went for a snooze in his basket.
I thought it was so sweet of Albert and I wonder if he understood a word I said or if it was just coincidence he came out at that time.
Hubby was pleased to hear all went well for Clive.

It's nice Albert listens to you I think they do listen and even if they don't understand, they know you're talking to them.

This is so cute, I often talk to Hams about the other hamsters and what they get up to and I’m sure he’s listening too.
