Hamsters with reading- maple used to get involved with L's home learning, charmander wasn't at all interested, L will sometimes read next to Teddy's cage and he will occasionally come over to have a look but in general isn't overly fussed. It really isReading to pets generally is a lovely idea. I haven't heard of it before. I wonder how hamsters would react to it. I know hamsters react to music - especially classical or soft music I've found. Do piggies like music as well Em?
Don't get me wrong I can't sing to save my life but I had the music on in the background and as she was inbetween friends she needed extra tlc from humans. She really struggled the first few days post spay and I was actually very worried she wouldn't pull through. We did loose her young in true dramatic fluffy style to a seizure (her body closing down from a bad respitory infection hours after seeing the vet and seconds after I hung up the phone to them after booking her second appointment of the day) but it's a memory I'll always treasure and I always played that song when she was poorlyAw, how lovely she enjoyed you singing to her. That must have felt comforting for her like a lullaby.![]()
Aw, rapt attentionMy dog used to love it when I read to him. He went through a phase (quite a long one!) where he would want me to read him a bed time story as he settled down in the evening. His favourite one was called ‘Goodnight Good Dog’. I could probably still recite it now!My husband also used to read him the nativity story each Christmas…he absolutely loved it!

I first found out about it when I was looking for something to help settle Monty down and came across a story on YouTube which had been especially written for dogs ...the story of Teddy and Stanley read by Simon Callow...I seem to remember the emphasis on certain sounds was calming. Monty liked it anyway! I played him an audio book of the famous five once and he loved that too!It really isReading to pets generally is a lovely idea. I haven't heard of it before. That is so specialI used to sing to Monty too. His favourite song was You are my sunshineI also used to sing Morningtown Ride to him. The day after he passed away I went to a Coronation event and the DJ really randomly played it!!! He stopped it tho after the words of the second verse...' driver at the engine, fireman rings the bell, sandman swings his lantern to show that all is well'. I took it as a sign that all was well, with Monty.
